The Kabal is Reborn!

Ordo Ineptus is kicking off a 40k Summer Campaign this weekend with a four-stage escalation tournament! To participate, I'm dusting off my Dark Eldar (and my 40k rules knowledge!), and am hoping to collect some nice "trophies" to take back to Commorragh!

The tournament will be done in four phases. The first at 400 points, then adding 200 points for each successive step, ending at 1000 points. You can add to existing units (either bodies or gear), and/or add new units, but units must be carried forward to each bigger list. At the 400 and 600 point values, special "Kill Team" FOC and rules are used.

Here's the 400 point list I'm planning on using:

400 Points
1 Haemonculus  -50

3 Hekatrix Bloodbrides -144
     1 Razorflail
1 upgrade to Syren with Agonizer
     Venom with Splinter Cannon upgrade

5 Kabalite Warriors -130
     1 Blaster
     Raider with Flickerfield

3 Reaver Jetbikes - 78
     1 Heatlance

The Haemonculus rides with the Wyches, sharing the pain and giving them FNP. The general plan is for the army to hug the back line and shoot at things until the boats get blown up, then hope to have enough speed with the Jetbikes to contest an objective while the Warriors hold one, with the Wyches keeping enemies away. It's hard to say, I don't really have any concept of what an enemy army will look like at 400 points! I may be woefully short on bodies, but if so I'm hoping to have the speed to stay disengaged and keep plinking away as long as possible.

At 600 points, I feel the need to have another scoring unit (of course, I don't even know if there will be traditional objective-based games...but can't go wrong with another Raider with some shootiness inside!) Added a liquifier gun to the Haemy (it's so nice to melt half a squad of marines in one shot...), the Wyches got doubled in size up to 6, with an extra Razorflail thrown in. They're big enough now that I'm pretty comfortable with them fighting nearly anything. Their Venom got upgraded to a Raider to make room for all their nubile bodies.

600 Points
1 Haemonculus -60
     Liquifier Gun

6 Hekatrix Bloodbrides -198
     2 Razorflails
1 upgrade to Syren with Agonizer
     Raider with Flickerfield

5 Kabalite Warriors -130
     1 Blaster
     Raider with Flickerfield

5 Kabalite Warriors -130
     1 Blaster
     Raider with Flickerfield

3 Reaver Jetbikes - 78
     1 Heatlance

Going to 800 points and I want more big guns...my play-style with the Kabal is to dance around pelting the bad guys with Lance shots, so trying to fit that mold, I add in 3 Trueborn with Blasters riding a Venom. Getting in my Lance-Spam groove here, as we have 5 Blasters, 3 Dark Lances, and a Heat Lance. An extra Wych is thrown in for good measure, and the Warrior squads picked up a Splinter Cannon, giving me a decent ability to shoot troops at range.

800 Points

1 Haemonculus -60
     Liquifier Gun

7 Hekatrix Bloodbrides -211
     2 Razorflails
1 upgrade to Syren with Agonizer
     Raider with Flickerfield

5 Kabalite Warriors -140
     1 Blaster, 1 Splinter Cannon
     Raider with Flickerfield

5 Kabalite Warriors -140
     1 Blaster, 1 Splinter Cannon
     Raider with Flickerfield

3 Reaver Jetbikes - 98
     1 Heatlance, Cluster Caltrops

3 Kabalite Trueborn -146
     3 Blasters
     Venom with Splinter Cannon Upgrade

And finally at 1000 points, keeping with the Lance-spam idea, I add in another unit of Trueborn. Also fill the Wych unit up to 9 bodies (so the Raider is full when the Haemonculus rides along) with the third Razorflail. The Haemonculus gets an Agonizer (can never have too many power weapons!), and with some points to spare one of the Reaver Bikes gets Cluster Caltrops
1000 Points
1 Haemonculus -80
     Liquifier Gun, Agonizer

9 Hekatrix Bloodbrides -247
     3 Razorflails
1 upgrade to Syren with Agonizer
     Raider with Flickerfield

5 Kabalite Warriors -140
     1 Blaster, 1 Splinter Cannon
     Raider with Flickerfield

5 Kabalite Warriors -140
     1 Blaster, 1 Splinter Cannon
     Raider with Flickerfield

3 Reaver Jetbikes - 98
     1 Heatlance, Cluster Caltrops

3 Kabalite Trueborn -146
     3 Blasters
     Venom with Splinter Cannon Upgrade

3 Kabalite Trueborn -146
     3 Blasters
     Venom with Splinter Cannon Upgrade

And planning ahead for the full campaign: I'm not really sure what point-value we'll be using for those games, but 1850 is a common size around these parts. So I put together what I think is a very fun 1850 list based on the above.

1850 points
Archon - 135
     Huskblade, Soultrap, Shadow-field

Haemonculus - 60
     Liquifier Gun

9 Hekatrix Bloodbrides -247
     3 Razorflails
     Syren with Agonizer
     Raider with Flickerfield

4 Kabalite Trueborn -173
     4 Blasters
     Venom with Splinter Cannons

4 Kabalite Trueborn -173
     4 Blasters
     Venom with Splinter Cannons

5 Kabalite Warriors -140
     Blaster, Splinter Cannon
     Raider with Flickerfield

5 Kabalite Warriors - 140
     Blaster, Splinter Cannon
     Raider with Flickerfield

5 Kabalite Warriors - 140
     Blaster, Splinter Cannon
     Raider with Flickerfield

5 Kabalite Warriors - 140
     Blaster, Splinter Cannon
     Raider with Flickerfield

3 Reaver Jetbikes -78
     Heatlance

3 Reaver Jetbikes - 78
     Heatlance

3 Ravagers (each with 3 Dark Lances) -345
     Flickerfields

The idea is to have lots of little units, and lots of Lance Shots. There's no one good target, though the Wyches are a lot of points. With 14 Dark Lances, 12 Blasters, and 2 Heat Lances...all spread around in many different units, all with Invuln Saves...I can hopefully put an end to enemy vehicles relatively quickly and painlessly. Once the enemy vehicles are dead, the surviving boats keep dancing and shooting to kill off enemy troops, the Wyches try to tie up enemy melee blobs, while the troops dig-in on objectes. With potentially 48 Splinter Cannon shots, plus Splinter Rifles and Reavery fly-bys, any troops on the ground will hopefully be forced to take massive amounts of armor saves...hopefully failing a fair amount too! :)

The Reavers, Wyches, Trueborn (with Archon) all fly flat-out on turn 1 to get in the way and draw attention, which will hopefully give the enemy lots of bad choices on what to do on his first turn. I've not tried the Archon since the new Codex came out, but the potential killiness of that load-out can't be ignored. I sure would love to throw him against Mephiston and steal his bloody soul! The downside to all this small-unit killiness, though: 21 kill points! Still...I think it's about as solid as a Dark Eldar Kabal can get with the new Codex. None of the flashy new stuff, just lots of shooty killiness.

But the tricky part about the rebirth of the Kabal....I don't know where half of it is! These guys have been languishing unused for so long I've completely lost track! I may have to proxy fantasy Dwarfs as Dark Eldar! :)
