Blizzard in October = Hobby Time!

Yes, we had a blizzard. October 29th we got about a foot of snow, along with a ton of wind. Many trees came down (the leaves hadn't finished falling, so lots of capacity to catch weight!), and lots of lines are down. My house still has power, but no internet, cable-TV, or phone.

My wife was dead-set on participating in Bethel Town Center's Trick-or-Treat, though, so the kids were stuffed in to their costumes with an extra layer of clothing and thrown out in to the blizzard.

Daddy, look...it's snowing!

Finesse Army: How can we make it work?

Yesterday I started talking (out of my butt!) about my concept of what a "Finesse Army" is, and how it can compare to some other armies. I wanted to continue discussing it today, with emphasis on how I apply my concept of Finesse Army to maintain competitiveness.

Dark Eldar: What does "Finesse Army" mean?

I had a discussion with Kirby of 3++ last night while we were watching folks play WM/H. I was brain-dumping some thoughts that came in to my head between my own experiences playing my Dark Eldar, some things that I've heard (and read) on 11th Company about the relatively low "competitive" level of the Dark Eldar, and thoughts on building a Grey Knight army...

Steamroller! 35 points of Warmachine / Hordes

One of my favorite tournament venues: Brothers Grim on Long Island is hosting a 35 point Steamroller event on December 3rd! I'm pretty excited, as I've been wanting to try out a WM/H tournament, and this sounds great to me. Brothers Grim is a great place with great people, I always have a good time there...what better place to lose my WM/H Tournament virginity?

The question is, what army should I bring?

My Army: Unit Analysis, Changes, and goals

I wanted to do a more detailed look at how I felt the components of my army worked in the first two tournaments I've taken them to and discuss what changes I think I realistically need to make, as well as discuss what I'll do to go down to 1750.

Battle for Salvation Wrap-up: Thoughts on the event, my army, and anything else...

It's been over a week since the tournament, but I'm still going over things in my mind. What I could have done different, who I wanted to play, where I ate dinner, the part at the hotel, etc...

BFS Day 2: The Final Battle!

I came to the realization after that last game that hey, I'm not doing too bad! Despite a bone-head move (or lack of move!) in Game 3, and a snooze-to-lose game 4, I was playing pretty decent Warhammer and my army was able to do exactly what I wanted it to do: give opponents lots of bad choices and punish them for them!

I was dismayed, however, to see that my opponent was an army that I've had a mental block against while playing on Vassal: Deathwing!

A mean army, and he's far more organized than I am!

BFS Day 2: Game 6

I think we had a lunch break in there...Subway hit the spot, I got a Mt. Dew (or two) and went back in to the ring for another game!

And guess what...I got to fight ANOTHER Logan led Space Wolf army full of Wolf Guard, Cyclones, and Long Fangs. Weeee!!!

BFS Day 2: Game 5

I had a horrible night in the hotel Saturday night. I'm a pretty light sleeper, so things that many folks sleep right thru keep me up. There was a party going on in the hotel. The party itself was no big deal, but it was between multiple rooms, with people opening and closing doors and hooting and hollering in the hallway until 2am. My second trip down to the lobby to talk to the staff, the guy I'm speaking to is telling me that he'll take care of it, it will be no problem...but he's taking cups and buckets of ice up to the room! Hello, dickhead...you're not helping, here! I got a bit short with the guy, asking him if this was a hotel or a night club. When I told him my next call would not be to the front desk, but to the police, he finally started taking it a bit more serious, and the party wound down shortly after.

BFS Game 4

This won't be much of a battle report. I was so tired and worn out, my adrenaline rush from Game 3 wore off. I pounded Coffee and Mt. Dew, but I was just simply not here for this game. I apologize to you all, this one will barely be worth reading. I also apologize to Sean Nayden, my opponent...I didn't put up much of a struggle, didn't make it a very fun game, and in fact I literally fell asleep at least two times during his movement.
